Derek Chauvin Is Innocent

This may seem like a ridiculous statement. But it’s not.

Yes, I’m aware that he was caught on camera. I’m also aware that he was fired and subsequently charged for his despicable actions. But the question I want to raise isn’t a refutation of these facts. It’s a simple question of agency.

Is America a racist country? The answer is yes. I don’t think many people out there would dispute this fact. But my query is this:

If America is a racist country, then how much agency do the white ruling class really have? If the very backbone of american culture is racist and toxic to the core, can we actually hold it against those who are too privileged to ever see this fact?

Derek Chauvin killed a man. Yes.

But he did so with the institutional backing of an evil and corrupt country.

It’s time we stopped vilifying cogs in the machine. It’s time we start dismantling the machine itself.

Signed with love,
Danielle
